What is EFT
• An emotional, needle free version of acupuncture. Each of the EFT points is an end-point in the energy meridian system.
• Connects mind, body & emotions via the body’s energy system.
• EFT comes under the general field of Energy Psychology. The basis of this is that we use the mind and body to tune into, and connect to a problem. The problem is then treated using acupressure on the energy system to clear it.
• Your emotions and body are indicators of the progress being made. The problem is systematically cleared until it is resolved.
EFT - The Discovery Statement
“The Cause Of ALL Negative Emotions Is A Disruption In The Body’s Energy System”
A thought or memory triggers disruption in the body’s energy system experienced as physical, psychological or emotional pain. EFT simply re-balances the energy system while the problem is in focus.
EFT – The Basics
The setup affirmation:
An acknowledgement of the problem and an acceptance of the self with this problem. Sometimes our subconscious does not want to let the problem go since we may be benefitting from it. The affirmation helps get past subconscious resistances to letting the problem go.
“Even though I have this problem I deeply and completely accept myself”
The reminder phrase: Helps maintain focus on the issue being treated.
“This problem” “I deeply and completely accept myself”
Procedure:
• Identify the problem and measure its intensity from 0-10
• Create a set-up and reminder phrase that is specific and accurately describes the problem
• Repeat set-up phrase 3 times while rubbing the sore spot or tapping the Karate Chop (KC) point
• Repeat reminder phrase while tapping on each of the following points 7 times (don’t count approximate!):
• TH : Top of the Head
• EB : Eyebrow
• SE : Side of the Eye
• UE : Under the Eye
• UN : Under the Nose
• Ch : Chin
• CB : Collar Bone
• UA : Under the Arm
• BN : Rib Cage/Below the Nipple
• LWU : Left Wrist Up
• LWD : Left Wrist Down
• RWU : Right Wrist Up
• RWD : Right Wrist Down
• C : Center, below the navel
• After tapping the above sequence, take 3 deep breaths, and gently relax with every exhale. Rest briefly.
• Check intensity level

• Repeat if necessary. Adjust the setup phrase and reminder phrase to reflect the fact that you are addressing the "remaining" problem.
Setup affirmation: "Even though I still have some sadness, I completely accept myself". Reminder phrase: "Remaining sadness".
• Ensure all emotional charge has gone and intensity is rated at 0.
• Drink lots of water to flush out any physical aspects of your emotions that may be there as debris. You may find yourself more thirsty after EFT.
Tips:
• Connect to your feelings....what is your response to the thought or event you are working with. Your body and being are more accurate than your thoughts. Become mindful of your response.
• Be Specific – Describe the pain, Relate to specific events, Refer to specific people. Try to work on specifics rather than broad general issues. It will help your body tune into the problem you want to fix. Tune into one specific problem (don't try to fix all problems at the same time). Don't do this while doing some other activity. Your mind needs to be tuned in to create the appropriate “thought field”.
• Say the setup and reminder phrases as though you mean them, own the words. Dont worry if it does not always feel true. This affirmation will help your body and mind heal.
• Say what you are experiencing, be honest with yourself and your emotions. Dont try to shy away from your problems. They wont leave you by you not facing them. It is ok to face them gently with the loving process that EFT is.
• Each problem may have several aspects to it. Sometimes multiple aspects of a problem may need to be addressed for the problem to be fixed completely. Just keep using EFT whenever some new aspect shows up. Don't get frustrated and think it is not working. It means that you have released some layers and are now becoming aware of other layers/aspects. It simply means you have uncovered a new aspect of the problem. Persistence works wonders.
• When you are unable to identify specific aspects, go with the actual emotion or simply "this feeling" and address this. Eventually your sub-conscious mind will pull out whatever is causing this and you will then be able to consciously get rid of this. EFT is a flexible process and you will often make progress on problems that are outside your immediate awareness.
• Perhaps the biggest mistake made by newcomers is that they try to use EFT on issues that are too global. So they may not notice results right away. Be more specific or when it is not possible -- keep trying till your sub-conscious mind pops up the issue, and then get more specific.
• There will be a generalization effect -- when you start using it -- after a few related areas are fixed, the fix will apply more generally.
• Take 3 slow deep breaths after you complete a round of tapping to help move the energy through your body.
• Drink lots of water to help the toxins move out of the body easily.
• Yawning during tapping is a sign that you are releasing energy, so let out the yawns and keep going.
• When you tap along with a group of others, you will experience "borrowing benefits" whether or not you are the "primary tapper". So always tap along.
Be specific during tapping:
Pain:
• Describe pain (Sharp, Shooting, Dull Ache) and location (left shoulder, neck etc).
• Emotion behind the pain, what is it how long has it been there?
• With pain, you may have to “chase” the pain.
• Pain relief may be temporary or permanent based on whether the problem is a “mechanical” one or “emotional” one.
Emotional Issues:
• Focus on your own feelings and reaction. Deal with specific incidents. Visualise the scene and keep testing till you no longer feel any emotional sting.
• Also, check your body – it is more honest than your thoughts. Your body is a true indicator of whether or not you have released your emotions.
Tell The Truth With Your EFT Tapping:
You might be confused thinking that it's not good to bring up your "negative" thoughts because you're often being told to "think positively." However there is no point “denying” the negativity in you. With EFT we let go the negativity from within…not suppress it with a coating of positive thinking on top!
By identifying and saying your true feelings out loud, you allow yourself to acknowledge your fears, doubts, pain, hurt, disappointment, etc. that are often a subconscious part of you anyway. EFT tapping gives you the tool to be able to release your negative thoughts and limiting beliefs and replace them with ones that serve you better.
What EFT does not do:
• EFT does not remove common sense caution.
• EFT is not a substitute for action. Rather, it prepares you to take appropriate action once the emotional issues have been released.
• EFT does not remove you from rationality. On the contrary, it allows you to become more rational once the mind has been cleared of the emotional impact.
• If there is a mechanical problem in the body, that may need to be addressed. EFT can help with any emotions related to the physical issue, but physical issue may need to be treated physically.
