I recently had a person share her experience with me and I thought the learnings from this bring up several interesting points..and very important ones on how to use EFT.
"I was in a desperate state with a terrible head ache. I tapped on my headache and it got worse" Why did EFT not work?
The answer to this is the basis for all forms of meditation including EFT. "What you resist - persists". It is only through acceptance that we can overcome whatever it is that we are going through. I cannot emphasize this enough.
Sounds vague? It actually isn’t once you've experienced it. When we are desperate to get rid of something - the "desperation" - an emotion actually comes in the way. Desperation is a resistance - it is trying to "not hear" what the headache is trying to tell us. Desperation has energy in it. Every emotion is energy. The more desperate the more energy we're giving to "getting rid" of something. Basic functioning of the mind/nature is "what you resist persists". Your desperation is against the flow...and the headache increases since you're giving the headache more power through resistance.
So how on earth can I accept my headache? This sounds ridiculous! Natural question....so how will this work?
If you are really in bad state - perhaps it isn't the time to try and be independent or self reliant in your healthcare...either tap with someone guiding you or take other forms of headache relief....allopathy, ayurveda or homeo - whatever form of emergency medicine you use. We all need love and acceptance sometimes. It is important to recognize this.
Self reliance in health care happens gradually over a period of time. Lovingly and gradually. There is no need to hurry into it or feel our egos hurt. Let us gently persist. As we get lighter - the self sufficiency in our health comes naturally.
This doesn’t mean you cannot tap - just do what you can do at that point in time. If you do feel up to tapping here are some suggestions -
First accept the desperation...
"Even though I feel desperate I have this headache it is driving me crazy...I still deeply and completely love and accept myself and my body with this headache".
"I accept that I am desperate"
"I will try to accept my body with this headache"
"Sending my desperation calmness"
"Filling my desperation with gentleness and love".
- Visualizations really help here.
Do as many rounds of it till you slow down.
Now if your headache has not yet reduced - try directly tapping on your headache with gentleness...
"Even though I have this terrible headache - I deeply and completely accept my body with this headache" My body is trying to tell me something. I choose to slow down and listen.
"Giving my body rest and relaxation".
"I completely accept my headache."
Do a few rounds till you start feeling better.
In many cases - when you stop resisting - the headache simply clears up.
Sometimes - your headache my not clear unless you actually address the underlying stresses and emotional issues.
Have you been working too much?
Does your body need rest?
Does your mind need rest?
Slow down and allow yourself some reflective time.
Typically headaches happen by too much "fire energy" up in your head. Cooling off is required. EFT is one way to cool off. Rest, relaxation may be required on top o EFT. Lots of water really helps since it will start the water energy circulation to balance the fire.
Do enough rounds of this till your desperation is balanced.
